US Department of Agriculture, funded by CRDFGLOBAL. African swine fever
(ASF) poses a major threat to the pig industry in Africa,
causing considerable economic losses and compromising food security .
In Benin, several outbreaks have been reported in recent years,
highlighting the need for an effective surveillance system. The project "Surveillance of
African Swine Fever in Benin: African Swine Fever Virus Outbreaks and Sampling in
Benin" aims to strengthen early detection, virus characterization, and the implementation
of appropriate prevention strategies. This initiative contributes to the protection of
the national livestock population and the socio-economic stability of Beninese farmers.
The objective of the project is to identify cases of African swine fever in pig farms
in Benin.
