The project aims to
address these issues through health promotion and the strengthening of
infection prevention measures.
Maternal and neonatal health is a major public health issue in Benin, particularly in rural and disadvantaged areas. Each year, the country records
approximately 1,500 maternal deaths and more than 12,000 neonatal deaths, the majority of which are related to infections. According to the 2021 annual report on surveillance and response to maternal and neonatal deaths,
52% of maternal deaths involve women under the age of
30 and 73% occur in rural areas. Inequalities in access to care,
socio-economic constraints, and certain cultural practices exacerbate this
situation. Previous projects have highlighted significant shortcomings in
hygiene within health facilities and communities. This project aims to
address these issues through health promotion and the strengthening of
infection prevention measures.
