EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE AND RATIONAL APPROACH TO THE USE OF MEDICINAL PLANTS IN BENIN: COCONSTRUCTIVE PEDAGOGICAL STRATEGY, RESEARCH, AND DISSEMINATION OF GOOD PRACTICES

2022

Period :

2023 - 2024

Our project is based on
the idea that a sustainable and rational approach to the use of medicinal plants in
Benin requires complementary activities targeting both higher education
in research on medicinal plants and the dissemination of good practices to
practitioners of traditional medicine.

1. Context

Phytomedicine is an integral part of cultural heritage and the health system
current in many African countries. In Benin, 80% of the population depends on
medicinal plants as primary source of care, but no formal training
is not available for the safe and effective use of these plants. Our project is based on
the idea that a sustainable and rational approach to the use of medicinal plants in
Benin requires complementary activities targeting both higher education
in research on medicinal plants and the dissemination of good practices to
practitioners of traditional medicine.
