Improving understanding of medicinal solutions for antibiotic-resistant bacteria
and coronaviruses using African flora.
Climate change poses a major challenge for Benin, particularly for
vulnerable communities on the coast, Lake Nokoué, and Cotonou. Rising
sea levels, extreme weather events, flooding, and
salinization of the lake are exacerbating existing risks of waterborne diseases such as
diarrhea and cholera, which are exacerbated by pollution, lack of sanitation, and
insufficient drinking water. Benin's climate action plan identifies the region of
Cotonou, Abomey-Calavi, and Sô-Ava as the most vulnerable, although the impacts
vary among different groups.
