Hygiene, Biosecurity and Antibiotic Therapy in Poultry Farming: Issues and Regulations

During the National Veterinary Day of Benin, a significant inaugural communication was presented on the theme: “
Hygiene, Biosecurity and Antibiotic Therapy in Poultry Farming: Issues and Regulations”. This intervention took place in the
framework of panel 3, devoted to questions of biosecurity, zoonoses and antimicrobial resistance, and made it possible to explore
fundamental issues for the Beninese poultry sector. She covered hygiene and biosecurity practices in depth
necessary to prevent disease on livestock, while examining the challenges posed by the use of antibiotics in
this sector. Particular light was shed on national policies on poultry farming, their application and their
impacts on the sustainable management of farms. The speaker also shared practical and strategic recommendations
aimed at encouraging rational and responsible use of antimicrobials, while strengthening hygiene and safety measures.

Benin, highlighting the need to balance production objectives with the protection of public health and security
food. Through this communication, the importance of the role of veterinarians and researchers was clearly underlined, in particular
in managing issues related to antimicrobial resistance and in promoting public health. This intervention has
thus reaffirmed the position of veterinary professionals as key players in building a more resilient poultry sector
and durable.
